Located on the limestone rocks of Huong Son Mountain in beautiful and mystical surroundings, the pagodas are 70 km or two-hour driving out of Hanoi. Unlike other temples in Vietnam, the only way to reach this sanctuary is floating along a narrow but extremely poetic stream by rowing boats that takes 45 minutes. An iron boat can carry 3-5 people and a large wooden boat up to 20 locals. The stream is edged by rice, grass, small paths, and temples here and there.Departing Hanoi at 08.00 we have a two hour drive through the picturesque countryside and back roads to the village of Duc for some refreshments before boarding our boats for a 1.5 hour ride along the scenic Yen river, surrounded by dramatic limestone cliffs. After this we walk to the Thien Tru Pagoda (Heaven's Kitchen) and the Perfume Cave and Pagoda - an hours walk in total. On our way back we visit Giai Oan and Tuyet Son Pagodas. Lunch will be at one of the little food stalls near Thien Tru Pagoda. After lunch the boat will take us back to our bus for the drive back to Hanoi. We arrive in Hanoi around 18.00 pm.Recommend Bringing: a small, lightweight day pack for cameras, spare film, drinking water and comfortable walking shoes. This tour must be booked at least 72 hours in advance of your travel date. Located just some 50km south from downtown Ho Chi Minh City, the outlying district of Can Gio is a ecotourism destination for a one-day weekend stretch out of the city and into the countryside, where mangroves, the beach and monkeys await you. Vam Sat mangrove forest is a part of the ecosystem of Can Gio mangrove forest with an area of 1,862ha. It has an abundant and assorted system of animals and plants including typical species of salt-marsh zone. In the wars against French colonialist and U.S imperialist, Vam Sat was a famous waterway battlefield with many resounding victories. Just few years after the war, the people have gathered here and restored the forest by growing trees to protect Can Gio's natural ecological conditions...Can Gio mangrove forest has quickly developed into a protective forest, a green lung of Vietnam's largest city. From September 2000, Vam Sat ecological tourist zone has started operation and received several arrivals of domestic and foreign tourists who have come here for sightseeing and doing research. In July 2002, World Tourism Organization (WTO) recognized Vam Sat ecological tourist zone as one of two “WORLD'S SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT TOURIST SITES IN VIETNAM”.
